Unveiling Trends, Materials & Sustainability Efforts for Commercial Flooring

Sustainable Commercial Flooring

As a professional flooring company based in the South of England, Lime Flooring has been a leading provider of Commercial, High Traffic, Flooring Solutions across the UK for many years. We understand that the needs of commercial spaces are unique, requiring flooring that's not only stylish but also durable, easy to maintain, and ideally, kind to the environment.

In today's world, there's a growing focus on sustainability in all aspects of construction and design. This extends to commercial flooring choices as well. Here at Lime Flooring, we're passionate about providing our clients with the best possible solutions, and that includes sustainable options that minimise environmental impact.

Unveiling Trends in Sustainable Commercial Flooring

There's a clear shift towards eco-conscious flooring materials in commercial spaces. Here are some key trends shaping the future of sustainable commercial flooring:

  • Recycled or Recyclable Materials: Look for flooring options that incorporate recycled content or are themselves recyclable at the end of their lifespan. This helps reduce reliance on virgin materials and minimises landfill waste.
  • Low VOC Options: Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) can negatively impact indoor air quality. Choosing low VOC flooring materials helps create a healthier environment for employees and customers.
  • Durable and Long-Lasting: Sustainable flooring shouldn't just be eco-friendly; it should also be built to last. Durable flooring minimises the need for frequent replacements, which reduces overall environmental impact.
  • Bio-Based and Rapidly Renewable Materials: Materials like cork, bamboo, and linoleum are gaining traction as sustainable flooring options. These materials are often fast-growing and renewable, making them a good choice for the environment.

Here at Lime Flooring, we stay ahead of the curve by offering a variety of sustainable flooring options for our clients. We'll work with you to understand your specific needs and recommend the best possible solution that meets your budget and sustainability goals.

Sustainable Materials for Commercial Flooring

Two of our most popular services, Commercial Polished Concrete and Epoxy Resin flooring, are prime examples of sustainable flooring solutions. Let's take a closer look at the benefits of each:

Commercial Polished Concrete

Polished concrete is a natural and low-maintenance flooring option. Here's why it's a great choice for sustainable commercial spaces:

  • Durability and Longevity: Polished concrete is incredibly strong and can last for decades with proper care. This minimises the need for replacements and reduces overall waste.
  • Energy-Efficient Polishing: The polishing process for concrete floors is much less energy-intensive compared to traditional flooring installations that require heavy machinery or rely on adhesives.
  • Unique Aesthetics: Polished concrete offers a sleek and modern aesthetic that complements a variety of design styles. It can also be stained or dyed to achieve a desired look.

Epoxy Resin Flooring

Epoxy resin flooring is a versatile option that can also incorporate recycled content. Here are some of its key benefits:

  • Versatility and Recycled Content: Epoxy resin can be installed in a variety of thicknesses and finishes. It can also incorporate recycled materials like crushed glass or rubber granules.
  • Easy-to-Clean and Hygienic: Epoxy resin creates a seamless and easy-to-clean surface, promoting good indoor hygiene in high-traffic areas.
  • Wide Range of Design Options: Epoxy resin comes in a wide range of colours and finishes, allowing you to create a floor that complements your overall design scheme.

Sustainability Efforts at Lime Flooring

At Lime Flooring, our commitment to sustainability goes beyond the materials themselves. Here are some ways we contribute to environmental responsibility:

  • Responsible Sourcing: We source our materials from reputable suppliers who prioritise sustainable practices.
  • Waste Reduction: We minimise waste during the installation process by implementing recycling and proper disposal procedures.
  • Partnerships: We partner with other companies that share our commitment to sustainability.

Our team have recently completed a very interesting project in Ipswich at their brand new Community Facility. This new build project was undertaken for Ipswich Town Council. Using Ardex PCT 4 material, we completed the process, enhancing the surface from 40 grit to 3000 grit with resin bonded diamond tooling. The result is a striking polished concrete finish with exposed aggregates, delighting the client with the outcome.
