Understanding Polished Concrete and Epoxy Resin Flooring

Commercial Flooring Providers

Polished concrete and epoxy resin are two popular flooring options for commercial spaces due to their durability, aesthetics, and low maintenance requirements. Polished concrete is created by grinding and polishing concrete to a smooth, reflective finish. Epoxy resin, on the other hand, is a liquid coating applied to concrete or other surfaces, creating a durable, seamless layer.

Daily Maintenance Tips

  • Regular Sweeping: Remove dirt and debris daily to prevent scratches and damage.
  • Damp Mopping: Use a mild cleaning solution and a damp mop to clean the floor regularly. Avoid excessive water.
  • Vacuuming: Vacuum the floor weekly to remove dirt and dust that may have settled.

Weekly Deep Cleaning

  • Scrubbing: For stubborn stains, use a stiff-bristled brush and a stronger cleaning solution.
  • Floor Stripping (for epoxy floors): If necessary, strip the epoxy coating to remove wax buildup or damage.
  • Sealing and Polishing (for polished concrete): Periodically seal and polish the concrete to maintain its shine and protect it from stains.

Special Considerations

  • Heavy Traffic Areas: Use floor mats or runners in high-traffic areas to reduce wear and tear.
  • Chemical Spills: Clean up spills immediately to prevent staining.
  • Temperature Extremes: Avoid extreme temperature fluctuations to prevent cracking or damage.

Our team have recently completed a very interesting project in Ipswich at their brand new Community Facility. This new build project was undertaken for Ipswich Town Council. Using Ardex PCT 4 material, we completed the process, enhancing the surface from 40 grit to 3000 grit with resin bonded diamond tooling. The result is a striking polished concrete finish with exposed aggregates, delighting the client with the outcome.
